Goat milk changes lives. For over eighty years and until this day, we have heard this tale again and again here at Meyenberg: Children with food sensitivities start to thrive. People find it easier to digest than regular milk and can enjoy real dairy. Veterinarians, breeders and pet owners share stories about how it nurtures their animals. Natural, nourishing and delicious – that’s the goodness of goat milk.
This goes straight to the heart of the Meyenberg story that began in the 1930s with Harold Jackson in Southern California and his son Robert. A delicate child at the age of six, Robert had been struggling with numerous food allergies and asthma for years and his father was determined to find a way to help him. In his quest for a nutritious and tolerable food for his son, Harold discovered a new product – evaporated goat milk – pioneered and produced in California by a recent immigrant from Switzerland named John Meyenberg.
A few years after his father’s unexpected death in 1944, and after attending Stanford, Robert Jackson took over Meyenberg at the age of 25. Over the next few decades, he would transform the business by creating a variety of goat dairy products including fresh whole milk and low-fat milk, powdered milk, cheese and butter. Robert, as President & CEO, with his wife Carol, as Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, grew Meyenberg into the country’s largest producer of fresh, powdered and evaporated goat milk until their retirement in early 2017. With great entrepreneurial spirit, they made good on their mission to bring the goodness of goat milk to America.
Our mission at Meyenberg has not changed and it is deeply engrained in our culture to this day. We remain committed to bringing people the goodness of goat milk, and its benefits of digestibility, nutrition and deliciousness. In addition to millions of people all over the United States, our long-term customers include family pets, zoos and veterinarians that rely on goat milk to nourish baby and special needs animals. Often lovingly called the “universal mothers milk” by Carol Jackson, goat milk is what we are all about, and will be for many years to come.
